Same Client, New Project-Continued!

Greetings Blogosphere!

This is a continuation of my last post since the two bedrooms required pretty much all of the furniture and accessories to be "DIY". I thought I'd share some of the pictures I was able to take of my in-process work and how I created said pieces.

Sadly, I was unable to get a before shot of my favorite makeover pieces for this project (seen above). Just imagine these black and white pieces as previously covered in a faded and peeling yellow paint - it might actually be a good thing there is no before picture for these haha, believe me, they were not pretty.
These pieces were sanded down and given a couple coats of paint - black on the top of the piece and white on the sides and drawers. I removed all of the hardware and used a black high gloss spray paint on them.

These were artificial topiaries that I put together using topiary tree forms that I found in the floral section of Hobby Lobby, and a bunch of different colored artificial flowers that were 80% off in the floral department of Jo-Ann Fabrics. Super easy to make your own floral arrangements, except that by fingers were swollen sausages by the end of the day from push all those stems into the foam, haha!

Another originally ugly yellow/green piece of furniture. I sanded down the piece and repainted it, which took a while because i used a small paintbrush for the coral colored details. This picture does not do the headboard justice!

These were two Queen Anne dining room chairs that were practically begging to be reupholstered and painted. Its not very hard, but it takes time and a LOT of patience - the painting takes the most time. All you need is thick upholstery fabric, a screwdriver to remove the seat/cushion from the chair base, and a staple gun (the kind from the hardware store-not Office Depot, lol).

These were two painted pieces for Synene's Bedroom- a desk and a dresser. A little paint and a lot of patience can go a very long way.

Happy DIY-ing!

Same Client, New Project!

Greetings Blogosphere!

I know I've been MIA for a while, but its been a crazy few months. I was working on another project this summer and was devoting every spare minute to it. The summer was followed by a new client and my first semester of my senior year in college (woohoo!) so as you can imagine, my plate was more than full. I really enjoyed this 2-bedroom project because it was actually a surprise design, I felt like a host of an HGTV show, haha! Since I had already designed a nursery for my client, she wanted me to do the same for her two other daughters as a birthday surprise. This of course took months of preparation and tons of garage space while I refinished all the furniture pieces for both bedrooms, details of which will be for a later post. Once the girls went to spend the night at their cousin's house, old furniture was pulled out and new furniture was brought in. Needless to say, the girls reactions when they saw their new rooms were PRICELESS! This was one time when crying was a good thing; in between the girl's sobs were, "I LOVE it!". I hope you all love it too!

Enjoy!

XOXO ~ Mimi!
